An interesting 30 minute stop on the way to Ispica to see some cool Catacombs and a Hellenistic-Roman “gymnasium”. Not a whole lot of information though.
€4/ each
It's a lovely visit, sadly a whole part of the visit was closed, so we could only visit the tombs and the Greek gymnasium. Easy parking, cheap and still interesting.
Most areas are fenced off very unclear instructions seems we missed the main cave. 8 euros to see two things the Greek period school and the ancient burial ground. They are all empty so really up to your imagination to see how
They are used
Off the beaten path, but well worth the visit.
These historic caves have had people living in/nearby since neolithic times, and the area is utterly fascinating. Read up on it before you go (the literature on site isn't the greatest). Also, be prepared for stuff to be in a somewhat rough condition. Then again, that's part of the charm...
A very interesting park well worth the trip. The water mill just up the path from the parking lot is also something to see. The sites are not related. The mill is privately held.
Fantastic place to see catacombs and learn about the history. Lovely views and atmosphere. The children loved the caves. Worth the small entrance fee and highly recommended if in the area.
The ancient cave catacombs and gathering area were fascinating. We visited an old water mill as well which was great.
November 2023 - The valley is closed, you only see the tombs and 2 small caves, visit lasts about 10 minutes max and they still charge you the full rate 4€/person.
